Looking to hike come 4th of July to some place new. I think I saw pics of ctskidoo hiking to table rock last year? Am I correct?
If so this is right off rt26 correct? How far in is it. Can a 5 year old that likes to hike make it?

I seem to recall that it's pretty much up and down and I am not sure it would be ideal for a small child. MtnGoat has referred to some pretty steep places, if I am thinking of the right place.

Hi Swankzr: There are actually two trails that are safe for a 5-yr old. From the state barn (south) side of Rt. 26 at the State Wayside parking lot, you can go up the Huntington Cascade Trail to the Three Brothers trail. This is the longest trail, steep in sections and will take you up to Table Rock in a little over two miles.
Option # 2: In between the south entrance to the Wilderness Ski Area and the north entrance of the westernmost Balsam entrance is a grassy pull-out on the south side of Rt. 26. There is a trailhead sign on the tree and this trail is just over a mile long. Take a left when you reach the trail junction up top and Table Rock is off to the left of the next junction (dropping down and out to the cliffs). There are several dangerous cliffs on both routes (Middle Brother Outlook off the Three Brothers Trail) and Table Rock itself.
Sorry this took so long!

Hi Swankzr, some kids can probably do better than some adults LOL. The 'easy way' is the 2nd option MtnGoat gave. It can be somewhat steep in some areas but that trail is real safe. Depending on the 5 year old you can just take it at a slower pace. Michael and I walked out to the cliffs on top. I would not recommend to go out too far with a youngster. Bring some water if it is a wamer day.

Thanks for the replies!! I will print this off and take the advise. My 5 year old is pretty careful but also pretty adventurous.
A couple of years ago we hiked Maggalloway and the other children (5 yr old did not go then - to young) which were 7, 10, 14 all beat us to the top. Now we were not racing by any means but yes were took a slower pace than them.. lol...
Planning this hike 4th of July weekend - hope summer comes..

Have fun. You'll enjoy this one. A little easier than Magalloway.
If it wasn't for so much rain I'd take the 60's and 70's temps all summer.... I only had the to use the A/C twice so far.
