Nice story! Didn't Sally Anne paint the Monhegan Lighthouse? I think we have a copy of her painting stored here somewhere.

Yes, she has painted it twice . . . once on a clear day and then the same scene again in the fog. She is one of the artist whose work is in our dining room. We also have paintings by Kevin Beers and Paul Niemiec who are current painters on Monhegan. And, of course, there are several Monhegan paintings by James Wyeth. WOuld love to have some of his work.

Check out my weekly blog which I posted this morning. Pittsburg, Indian Stream, the Connecticut River, and Tabor Notch all figure into the story. www.lookingtowardportugal.blogspot.comWoodman

Another new "Looking Toward Portugal" column posted this morning. Check it out at: www.lookingtowardportugal.blogspot.comFrigid weather headed for the Mid-Atlantic this week and I am thinking of heading north. Look for Woodman wandering by himself in the woods.

Drove through quite a snowstorm in Maine on Sunday but I did finally make it over to Pittsburg. This morning I parked at Young's Store because I could not navigate Danforth Road and hiked from there up to Central HQ for a nice visit with MountainGoat and Ridgerunner. It has been too long. It's always good to me back up in the Great North Woods.

Even with all the problems on your trip. I am sure it is better than being in the circus that is Washington D.C. today or any other day

Made it back safe and sound and today is just a normal day in DC (or as normal as one can ever hope it will be). New faces and probably a new way of doing things across the board here. I'll wait and see. But it was nice to be back up north . . . and to have a chance to visit with MtnGoat and Ridgerunner on snowy Prospect Mountain.

Hey, it was good to see you too...It's not everyday that someone hikes 1.3 miles, UP the mountain in the snow, to see us! What a surprise. And I'm glad you got the chance to meet Jeff and Bob and to be able to put names to faces.

Too bad we didn't know Woodman was in town.
We also saw the light snow falling under the bright blue sky Monday morning.
That was cool !

Yep, it's Monday morning and there is a new column posted . . . a tribute to Andrew Wyeth who died February 16 at age 91 at his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. We went up there on Sunday to do some exploring in the areas where he painted. Check out www.lookingtowardportugal.blogspot.com

You will notice a few new additions to Looking Toward Portugal. First, I have included a photo taken by my wife, Sally Ann. I am staring out a window of the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, located in Bristol, Maine. What am I staring at, you ask? Portugal, of course. Actually my eyes are focused on Monhegan Island which is situated some fifteen miles off the coast. I am wishing I were out there and looking back toward shore. Also other photos from time to time. I have also added “What’s Happening on the edge of America,” a list of upcoming publications, readings, and other events I will be attending in some capacity, as well as a selected bibliography. Finally, a list of links to other sites you might find of some interest.

Beautiful pictures, Woodman! I am SOOOO ready for spring--we are still all brown here in Central PA. The only thing blooming so far are one batch of crocuses. Too cold for the others, I guess Buds are coming on the maple trees, though.

I am very sorry for the delay in posting this essay on the American bison. I have been promising it for the past month or so, but it took longer than I expected to get it down on paper. Now it’s time to share it with you. www.lookingtowardportugal.blogspot.comHappy reading! Woodman
